Use a word processor to write an essay describing a characters reaction to events from what you read in Reading/Literature today. Introduce the author or character as the narrator and use reasons and evidence to support their reactions. Include quotations and examples from your reading book. Use words to show the event order such as “then,” “after,” and “next.” End your essay with a concluding statement. With help from your teacher, plan, edit, and revise your work.

Study the image above. To subtract fractions with like (or the same) denominators, you subtract the numerators to get the new numerator; and you leave the denominator the same. On March 11, 1848, gold is found by Mormons on the south fork of the American River and is discovered on a bar opposite a little island which becomes Mormon Island. This was the first major gold strike in California after James W. Marshall’s discovery at Coloma. Take notes while reading more about it. Use the Research Center to investigate further.
