- Drawing Paper

- Ruler
- Protractor (grades 7-12)
- Construction Paper
- Printer paper
- Word processor such as Microsoft Word
- Slide Presentation software such as Power Point
- Email account, network, or online storage/file system for sharing work between student and parent/teacher
- A drawing program such as Photoshop, Corel Draw, GIMP, or FireAlpaca
This Years Curriculum
Palomar K12 curriculum for Ninth Graders is a packed day of reading, writing, strategizing, and collaborating. Below is an outline of the curriculum.
Reading/Literature 9
- Cite strong and thorough evidence to support analysis of what a text says
- Determine a central idea of a text and analyze its development, how the text is shaped by details, and provide an objective summary
- Analyze how the author unfolds an analysis of ideas or events, including their order, and how they are introduced, and the connections between them
- Determine the meaning of words and phrases used in a text, including figurative and technical meanings
- Analyze in detail how an author’s ideas or claims are developed and refined by particular sentences, paragraphs or portions of the text
- Determine an author’s point of view or purpose in a text and analyze
- Analyze various accounts of a subject told in different mediums
- Evaluate the arguments of a text and assess whether or not the reasoning is valid
- By the end year, read and comprehend literary nonfiction
Language Arts 9
- Write arguments to support claims in an analysis or texts using reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence
- Write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas
- Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective techniques, well-chosen details, and well-structured event sequences
- Produce clear and coherent writing appropriate to tasks
- Develop and strengthen writing by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach, focusing on what is most significant for the purpose
- Conduct short as well as more detailed research projects, and gather data from print and digital sources using advanced searching techniques
- Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis and research
