Acids produce protons or the H+ ion while bases accept protons or generate OH- pH is a measure of the hydrogen ion (H+) concentration in an aqueous solution. Understanding pH can help you predict the properties of a solution, including the reactions it will complete. A pH of 7 is considered neutral pH. Lower pH values indication acidic solutions while higher pH values are assigned to alkaline or basic solutions. There are many experiments, projects, and demonstrations you can do to examine acids, bases, and pH. Many color-change reactions involve acids and bases, including some clock reactions and disappearing ink. There are three major classifications of substances known as acids or bases. |
