School Supplies – We recommend getting the following

  • Lined paper appropriate for your grade level
  • Pens and pencils
  • Colored pencils
  • Crayons and markers (grades K-6)
  • Paint supplies such as watercolors, acrylics, brushes, small canvases
  • Drawing Paper
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Protractor (grades 7-12)
  • Construction Paper
  • Printer paper

Software – For grades 3 and up, we recommend the following types of

  • Word processor such as Microsoft Word
  • Slide Presentation software such as Power Point
  • Email account, network, or online storage/file system for sharing work between student and parent/teacher
  • A drawing program such as Photoshop, Corel Draw, GIMP, or FireAlpaca


This Years Curriculum
Palomar K12 curriculum for Seventh Graders is a packed day of reading, writing, thinking, and strategizing. Math also takes a new direction with beginning Algebra. Below is an outline of the curriculum.

Reading/Literature 7

  • Determine the theme or central idea of a text and how it conveys particular details
  • Cite textual evidence to support analysis of a text
  • Describe how a particular text’s plot unfolds and how characters respond or change as the plot changes
  • Analyze how a particular part of a text fits into the overall structure
  • Compare and contrast a text verses an audio, video, or other media
  • Read and comprehend various texts for grade level

Language Arts 7

  • Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence
  • Write informative and explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information using charts, tables, graphics, and multimedia
  • Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences and events using descriptive details and well-structured sequences
  • Produce clear and coherent writing in which the style is appropriate to task
  • Use technology, to produce and publish writing and collaborate with others
  • Conduct short research projects, and gather information from multiple print and digital sources, assess the credibility of sources, and quote from the sources
  • Draw evidence from literary sources to support analysis, reflection, and research
  • Grade level spelling words

Math 7 (Pre-Algebra)

  • Analyze proportional relationships and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations
  • Apply and extend previous understandings of operations with fractions to add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational numbers
  • Use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions
  • Draw, construct and describe geometrical figures and describe the relationships between them
  • Solve problems involving angle measure, area, surface area, and volume
  • Solve problems involving cylinders, cones, and spheres

History/Social Studies 7

  • World history and geography of Medieval and Early Modern Times
  • The disintegration of the Roman Empire
  • Geographic, political, economic, and social structures of the Middle East, Asia, Europe, Mesa-American and Andean civilizations during Medieval times
  • The Renaissance period
  • The Reformation period
  • The Scientific revolution and its effects on humanity
  • Political and economic change in the sixteenth, seventeenth, and eighteenth centuries (Age of Exploration, Enlightenment, and Reason)

Science 7

  • Life Sciences: cell biology, genetics, and evolution
  • Structure and functions of living systems, anatomy of plants, animals, and people
  • Underlying biological structures and functions
